Read below for my all-time favorite fantasy books/series.

My All Time Favorite Fantasy Books
Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas
Crescent City by Sarah J Maas
The Black Witch by Laurie Forest
An Heir Comes to Rise by Chloe C Penaranda
Caraval by Stephanie Garber
From Blood & Ash by Jennifer L Armentrout
1. Throne of Glass
This is my all-time, number one favorite series. I think about it on a daily basis it’s that good. The FMC, Celaena, is so confident, strong, and the best fighter (and assassin). I remember when I first read it, I found myself wanting to be more like her (yes this was totally a “this book became my personality” vibe). Oh and the men in this series?! Well I definitely got some long term book boyfriends from it that’s for sure. But one of my favorite characters from all time isn’t introduced until a few books in. Her name is Manon Blackbeak and she grew so much throughout the course of the series. All I will say is… “Live, Manon. Live”.
2. A Court of Thorns and Roses
This Beauty & the Beast retelling is AMAZING, coming in at my second favorite series of all time. Feyre is a survivor. A survivor and a protector. She’s stolen away from her home by the one being humans were taught to hate and be afraid of: the Fae. Not only is she kidnapped, but she also has to learn to rid herself of preconceived biases and… you guessed it… break a curse!
3. Crescent City
Sarah J Maas can do no wrong. Seriously, all of her books are outstanding. This series isn’t complete yet but it will live in your head rent-free. Another badass FMC, amazing plot, and swoony Fae. I didn’t think I would like this one at first since it takes place where there’s phones and other electronics (different from her usual), but I was definitely wrong. Most of the plot revolves around solving a murder which gave me major Criminal Mind/crime show vibes.
4. The Black Witch
This series is so underrated and I don’t see enough of it on bookstagram/booktok. It’s a university setting book centered around Elloren Gardner. Elloren is the spitting image of her grandmother, the powerful Black Witch who drove back enemy forces. And while Elloren looks exactly like her, she‘s devoid of power. When she goes to University, she learns that it’s a treacherous place for the granddaughter of the Black Witch and has to fight to survive. There’s found family, hidden identities, and a love triangle. But don’t let the love triangle persuade you (if you’re not fond of them, which I usually am not), it’s really such a good series. It’s not complete yet but there’s four very large books out right now (plus two novellas).
5. An Heir Comes to Rise
Need a cure to your Throne of Glass/ACOTAR hangover? Well this is it! It has similar aspects in terms of Fae, tropes, and strong FMCs. This book follows Faythe, a human with a talent for swordplay and a deadly ability no human should have. There is so much intrigue and mystery surrounding who Faythe is, where she got her magic, and her strange golden eyes. The world building and unique magic was also incredible.
6. Caraval
I read this series last year and still think about it! It’s so different from the fantasy books above but gosh it will enrapture you. Here’s a little overview: Scarlett has always dreamed of seeing Caraval, a faraway once-a-year performance where the audience participates. Her dreams come crashing down when her cruel father arranges a marriage for her. But Tella, Scarlett‘s sister, makes that dream come true. However when they get there, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s organizer and this season of Caraval revolves around Tella - whoever finds her first is the winner.
7. From Blood & Ash
I also read this (uncompleted) series last year and it was so good. I will say that while the latest book, A War of Two Queens, is released, I haven’t read it yet. There was some controversy around it but I’m not going to let that sway me (I just need to do a reread before starting it).
